Rebecca Masterson developed her decorating flair early. With her mother, Susan Smith, the combo scoured the shops, stores and boutiques of the Chicago suburbs for the fine, fun and flamboyant. With free reign to decorate her own pre-teen bedroom, Becca soon learned that less is more, and felt artistically obligated to remove the majority of her Rob Lowe photo collection. In high school, Becca and her mom clashed over the meaning of good taste, but in the end, Susan allowed the mock gravestone, but refused to paint the room black. In hindsight, Becca realizes this was clearly a good call. Live and learn. (Becca does wonder where that gravestone went...is it possible Susan got her way after all and discarded it? Oh no!)

College in Iowa brought special decorating challenges for Becca to address. With 4 girls in a room that could double for a closet, Becca was forced to find unique ways to store books, clothes, makeup and other odds & ends. The room was always filled with visitors, and while those four girls were crazy fun, Becca likes to think the decor also had something to do with the room’s popularity. After college, Becca headed to law school in Tucson. Again, space was tight, but with stained concrete floors, hand-painted furniture and her mom’s help with hand-me-downs, Becca turned her blah rental into an entertainer’s dream. And entertain she did, because really, there is nothing better than good friends and good food in a well-designed space.

After 7 years as a lawyer, Becca was ready to turn her passion into her profession. While she loved practicing law, she found herself redecorating conference room, lobbies, and offices in her head. Sadly, this creativity is not considered “billable” by most firms. Hence, Embellish was born! With Susan as free labor (hooray for moms!), the mother-daughter combo combed through Market, exhausted the Internet, and searched high and low for creative, unique and downright fabulous pieces for your home.
